The Pastoral Epistles Layman’s Guide

The Pastoral Epistles Layman’s Guide, written by Dr. David Silver, highlights Paul’s final instructions to Timothy and Titus as they lead churches facing threats from false teaching. Paul urges them to guard the gospel, appoint godly leaders, and teach sound doctrine that produces transformed lives. The letters emphasize that true faith results in godliness, healthy relationships, perseverance in hardship, and devotion to good works. Above all, the church must uphold the truth of the gospel so it can flourish in character, stability, and witness to the world.

Weekly Devotions

The Bow in the Cloud

May 2, 2026

We carry the weight of broken promises so long that we start to assume every promise has a breaking point. We know better than to say that about God out loud.

Creation Speaks — And So Does Grace

April 24, 2026

Later, I asked her directly — “Where do you think your faith comes from?”

Temptation vs Testing

April 17, 2026

Temptation does not come from God. Its purpose is to pull us away—to weaken us, to distract us, to lead us into choices that ultimately bring harm, shame, or distance in our relationship with Him.

God Wrote the Words

April 10, 2026

When purpose takes over, the results move from the talent of man to the realm of the Divine. We see this “Divine” perfection most clearly…

The Sufficiency of Christ

April 3, 2026

Paul didn’t get his thorn removed. He got something better. He got the reminder that the God of the universe was personally present in his weakness.

Your Will be Done

March 27, 2026

God’s kingdom sums up everything a Christian longs for and Corinthians 13 describes this as a world characterized by faith, hope, and love. If our earthly world was built on only these three principles, how much more peaceful, more beautiful, and more livable would it be than the world we’re living in right now?

What Did the Lord’s Prayer Mean to Me?

March 20, 2026

For many people, the Lord’s Prayer is something they learn early in life. For me, it’s as ingrained as my instinct to breathe.

Why Does a Good God Allow Suffering?

March 13, 2026

Hardship often shifts our focus from temporary comfort to eternal hope. When life is easy, we tend to rely on ourselves. But when life becomes difficult, we often find ourselves turning to God for strength.

Fear and the Favorite Son

March 7, 2026

His life would travel from favorite son to a man marked for death, thrown in a pit, sold to nomadic travelers, and imprisoned for roughly thirteen years, before he became the second-most powerful man in one of the world’s greatest dynasties.

The View from the Pit

February 27, 2026

Oliver Hardy used to say, “This is a fine mess you’ve gotten us into.” It’s funny in a comedy sketch, but not so funny when it’s your actual life.

Religion and Grace Don’t Mix

By Robert Wilkins | September 5, 2021

Beginning in this chapter until the end of the Book of Acts, we find Paul in Roman custody. Other epistles in the New Testament present Paul as a free man, but in terms of Acts, this was the end of his time as a free man. Imprisoned or free, he never ended his witness to Jesus Christ or his usefulness to God and God’s people.

For I Am With You

By Robert Wilkins | September 4, 2021

I’ve been aware of my Christian roots for most of my life and throughout this journey I’ve also tried to be aware of God’s plan for me. Several times I felt I was sailing along in the direction He set me on, only to be disrupted, bumped, and turned another way. One day I’m on cruise control and the next, I’m scratching my way up a steep hill with nothing to hold onto. God uses all of us in different ways, He just doesn’t tell us what those ways are.

Sermon of the Known God

By Robert Wilkins | August 27, 2021

Many events take place in chapter 17 of Acts. Luke captured all the historical details to describe what took place with Paul in Athens. More importantly, he captured the necessary details to show us the proper way to spread the gospel to an audience of mixed believers.

God Knows Everything You Will Ever Do

By Robert Wilkins | August 20, 2021

Life didn’t get any easier for Paul and others involved in the development of the early church. Paul had already traveled in this region before on a previous mission trip. According to William Barclay, Paul’s first mission was about five years before the events of chapter 16. We can assume that Paul was eager to see for himself the fruits of the work of the Lord among these churches since his prior visit.

What’s Inside the Heart of the Matter

By Robert Wilkins | August 13, 2021

As a teenager in high school, I would sometimes get into fierce arguments with friends about which rock band was better. When I say friends, I’m not talking about casual acquaintances, I’m talking about close, longtime friends. The conversations would sometimes go from humorous to nasty in 60 seconds. In our divisive world today, it’s virtually impossible to have a civil disagreement about anything. From politics to vaccines to social justice, it’s normally fuel for a heated discussion. Surprisingly, churches can be even worse in terms of tolerance for disagreement.

Let the Heavens Rejoice, Let the Earth Be Glad

By Robert Wilkins | August 6, 2021

A long time ago, I heard a significant sermon from a past Pastor that has stuck with me for more than two decades. He told us of a memorable story of being stuck on a small sailboat out at sea, being blasted by a freak storm. His message began with a vivid image of sailing out of a harbor baked by the afternoon sun. He mentioned the sun peaking through the tall grasses on the side of the shoreline, looking like a golden coating. The water was dancing, shimmering from the power of the August sunshine. I remember clearly, his almost sarcastic smile as he told us he knew that God was blessing their journey, their boat, and of course, them too.

From Tragedy, Hope Emerges

By Robert Wilkins | July 30, 2021

God makes us all different and equally wonderful in His image. He made me a bit of a procrastinator. I had a huge project that I was late on delivering, you guessed it, partly due to procrastination. In order to deliver the presentation the next morning on September 11, 2001, I had to pull an all-nighter.

This Little Light of Mine

By Robert Wilkins | July 23, 2021

There’s a big difference between knowledge and wisdom, and the older I get the more value I put upon the former. Knowledge can be gained from our own efforts. Wisdom is imparted from God. Wisdom has taught me to know that we can never put ourselves in others’ shoes. During the height of the Pandemic, I would sometimes downplay the pain and isolation that people were enduring.

Revelation Study Guide

David Silver

Many people, even Christians, fear the book of Revelation. While it is one of the hardest books of the Bible to understand and apply, it is nonetheless possible to make great progress. It is actually one of the most encouraging books of the Bible. The main theme is for believers to continue to be faithful and endure tribulation, despite persecution, spiritual warfare, and trials. This study guide will take you through every chapter of Revelation and give you a good sense of the content and application. May God richly bless you as the book promises to those who take this book to heart.
