The Pastoral Epistles Layman’s Guide

The Pastoral Epistles Layman’s Guide, written by Dr. David Silver, highlights Paul’s final instructions to Timothy and Titus as they lead churches facing threats from false teaching. Paul urges them to guard the gospel, appoint godly leaders, and teach sound doctrine that produces transformed lives. The letters emphasize that true faith results in godliness, healthy relationships, perseverance in hardship, and devotion to good works. Above all, the church must uphold the truth of the gospel so it can flourish in character, stability, and witness to the world.

Weekly Devotions

The Bow in the Cloud

May 2, 2026

We carry the weight of broken promises so long that we start to assume every promise has a breaking point. We know better than to say that about God out loud.

Creation Speaks — And So Does Grace

April 24, 2026

Later, I asked her directly — “Where do you think your faith comes from?”

Temptation vs Testing

April 17, 2026

Temptation does not come from God. Its purpose is to pull us away—to weaken us, to distract us, to lead us into choices that ultimately bring harm, shame, or distance in our relationship with Him.

God Wrote the Words

April 10, 2026

When purpose takes over, the results move from the talent of man to the realm of the Divine. We see this “Divine” perfection most clearly…

The Sufficiency of Christ

April 3, 2026

Paul didn’t get his thorn removed. He got something better. He got the reminder that the God of the universe was personally present in his weakness.

Your Will be Done

March 27, 2026

God’s kingdom sums up everything a Christian longs for and Corinthians 13 describes this as a world characterized by faith, hope, and love. If our earthly world was built on only these three principles, how much more peaceful, more beautiful, and more livable would it be than the world we’re living in right now?

What Did the Lord’s Prayer Mean to Me?

March 20, 2026

For many people, the Lord’s Prayer is something they learn early in life. For me, it’s as ingrained as my instinct to breathe.

Why Does a Good God Allow Suffering?

March 13, 2026

Hardship often shifts our focus from temporary comfort to eternal hope. When life is easy, we tend to rely on ourselves. But when life becomes difficult, we often find ourselves turning to God for strength.

Fear and the Favorite Son

March 7, 2026

His life would travel from favorite son to a man marked for death, thrown in a pit, sold to nomadic travelers, and imprisoned for roughly thirteen years, before he became the second-most powerful man in one of the world’s greatest dynasties.

The View from the Pit

February 27, 2026

Oliver Hardy used to say, “This is a fine mess you’ve gotten us into.” It’s funny in a comedy sketch, but not so funny when it’s your actual life.

Not Unclean or Common

By Robert Wilkins | May 11, 2021

Just when we think we’re good enough, God reminds us to think again. When we think we’re righteous enough, God shows us that, apart from our Savior Jesus Christ, we’re not. When we think we’re better, superior, or blessed over others, God points us to the truth. Acts 10 is a turning point for Gospel application in this world.

Light The Fire In My Heart

By Robert Wilkins | May 7, 2021

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always enjoyed deep conversations with Pastors. As a kid, my best friend’s Dad was a Presbyterian minister. He taught me so much about faith and life. As I grew more confident in my faith, our conversations matured too. I consider myself friends with my current Pastor and I love to commend (and sometimes kid) him about his messages. I have also enjoyed open friendships with the pastors at our former church before we moved. The dynamics were different, but I’ve been blessed by the teachings, wisdom, and gifts from each one of them.

What are you waiting for?

By Robert Wilkins | April 30, 2021

One of my closest friends since moving to our new home happens to have the same great taste in football teams as I do. Without mentioning any cities or mascots, I’ll just say, “Go Big Blue.” One important principle that many Jesus followers forget is the art of love. I’m not talking about food, vacation spots, TV shows, or even sports teams, I’m talking about loving the way that God commanded us and showed us.

You’ve Got Your Downs and Ups

By Robert Wilkins | April 23, 2021

One Christmas Eve, we were testing out a brand new sound system at our church. At the time, it was cutting edge. It was fully controllable by an iPad. The only problem is that the tablet hadn’t arrived yet. As the point person for the audio-visual, it meant that I had to control the soundboard and all the mics manually from a small room between the Sanctuary and the social hall. Since I couldn’t see what was going on during the service, I had to go back and forth to get my cues and put them into action.

My Way is Not THE Way

By Robert Wilkins | April 19, 2021

The older I get, the less likely I want to learn from other people, especially younger ones. Yes I sound like a curmudgeon, but it happens to everyone. When it comes to learning more about the Holy Spirit in people’s lives however, I thirst for knowledge. God works through all of us differently because He knows what we’re capable of and where our weaknesses are. He knows what we will be as a finished product. So everyone’s story is equally interesting and powerful.

You Can Run But You Can’t Hide

By Robert Wilkins | April 16, 2021

It’s funny when you run into someone who you haven’t seen since you were a different person. It’s surreal. I vaguely remember partying with this friend almost 40 years ago while we were in college. We weren’t particularly close friends, but we hung out in the same social circles. I can’t even say with confidence what we had in common back then. Our conversations probably stayed on the superficial level, digging into who did the best guitar solo, which football team was better, or who held the wildest parties.

Today You Will Be With Me in Paradise

By Robert Wilkins | April 2, 2021

Easter is the pinnacle of the Christian faith. All of the days in the liturgical calendar, even Christmas, point to Christ’s resurrection. Without our redemption from Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, none of the other days can stand alone. Our faith would be hollow without it.

Hand it Over, but Stop Taking it Back

By Robert Wilkins | March 26, 2021

When things are going right in our lives, we tend to be self-sufficient and put God on the backburner. Success makes us feel like we’re not only in control of our status, but we’re also responsible for it. A close relative of my wife spent some time with me this morning talking about her faith, her struggles, and her victories as a child of God. “When I go through bad times, it brings out His importance.” As we examined her responses to her life challenges that God puts in front of her, she added, “In my life, I try to praise him at all times. I pray about letting go, but it keeps coming back.”

Revelation Study Guide

David Silver

Many people, even Christians, fear the book of Revelation. While it is one of the hardest books of the Bible to understand and apply, it is nonetheless possible to make great progress. It is actually one of the most encouraging books of the Bible. The main theme is for believers to continue to be faithful and endure tribulation, despite persecution, spiritual warfare, and trials. This study guide will take you through every chapter of Revelation and give you a good sense of the content and application. May God richly bless you as the book promises to those who take this book to heart.
