Genesis

The book of Genesis, the first book of the bible, is the beginning of the Torah, or law. It is actually composed of ten books after the prologue, all which start with the phrase “This is the account of”, or Toledot in Hebrew. The book can also be divided into the Primeval History in the first 11 chapters and the Patriarchal History for the rest of the book. Facebook-Blog (1)The Primeval History takes us from the creation account to the call of Abram. The Patriarchal History shows the journeys of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, ending with the twelve sons of Jacob undergoing a transformation due to God’s salvation of the world through the outcast brother Joseph.

Two lines of mankind are traced throughout Genesis that continue through the rest of history: the godly line and the ungodly. Genesis takes us from the creation of the world to the inception of Israel, the godly line. Moses is telling these stories so Israel can understand its origin. But at the same time, in parallel, the ungodly rise up to fight against God and his people.
